When Is a Tooth Extraction Necessary?
12/09/2025
Tooth extractions sound scary—but they’re sometimes the best step to protect your overall dental health.
Common Reasons for Extraction:
- Severe tooth decay or infection
- Impacted wisdom teeth
- Advanced gum disease
- Fractured teeth that can’t be repaired
- Failed root canal treatments
At Silk Dental, extractions are always a last resort. We explore all restorative options first, including re-root treatment via our specialist Endodontist.
What Happens Next?
We’ll talk through your options for replacing the tooth, including:
- NHS removable dentures, made of acrylic plastic and need to be removed at night
- Dental bridge (if indicated)
- Private dental implants (the gold standard for tooth replacement)
We also support nervous patients every step of the way, ensuring you’re fully informed and comfortable.
Sedation options are available at our practice for those patients who are more anxious about dentistry. Please ask a member of our team for more information
